I know you guys probably dont go on this website, but i started playing on a website
It is called "habbo hotel" and it is a virtual hangout aimed for teenagers.  (This isnt the bad part) They sell coins that allow you to do special stuff, coins cost 20 cents each
Well, being my normal idiotic self, i decided to go look for cheat codes.  I found one that said it gave free coins (fortunately it was an ALT code, no numbers involved) I clicked the link to get into the cheat website...It gave me a virus
Luckily, i removed the virus in about 15 minutes.
I dont think this is what i got, but i looked up types of viruses, and a found an exceptionally scary virus called a "keylogger"
keyloggers are put into your computer, and are activated by the person who downloaded them.  Once activated, this virus copies everything EVERYTHING you type and e-mails it to the hacker who made the keylogger.  This means credit card numbers, passwords, and other personal info get into someone elses hands.

Since i got the virus (which im now sure wasnt a keylogger, but still something bad) I have scanned my comp multiple times.  No viruses, all good

STAY SAFE!

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*takes notes*
You should, this is serious, bad stuff can happen
that's what antivirus programs are for
I know, thats what i used to get rid of the virus

Seriously, if we didnt have antivirus stuff, we'd be in trouble, it said it protected us from about 70k viruses since we got it o_o
so this is the first time youve heard of key loggersHuh? you need to brush up on your computer no-nos
I'd say you'd be better if you stayed off of the no-no sites, too *shakes her finger at GS* lol
We would all be toast if there were no antivirus stuff. They'd eventually come out with some if it was a big problem.
Well, most keyloggers I know of are from runescape. What they do, they put it in the HTML coding and when you go to their site it makes a few files with virus' in your computer. Majority of the time, they will make a file that CAN'T be detected by a virus detecter and you have to wipe out your hardrive completely. The ones that I hear about on runescape, they get your password, steal everything on your account, change the password, then go on with thier lives. They are probably too scared to steal credit card numbers or anything, so they steal items on accounts. Probably GS, your virus, most likely a keylogger, is trying to get your habba hotel account and take what you have and change your password, if you can trade/take things.. If you can't then he wants all your personal information.  Wink
invest in a good firewall, good antivirus software, an external hardrive, and a fresh copy of windows xp pro. when you feel like your computer is getting slow or acting up more so than normal, scan all your files, then transfer your important files onto your external hard drive then reinstall windows xp. thats what i do. its good to do every year. you should run a virus scan and registry scan once a week.
i download the latest norton softwares every year.....gotta love those torrents. And I have an automatic antivirus scanner that scans everynight at 2am
I pretty much dont have to worry about antiviruses right now. With three firewalls running and an internet security, antispam, and spy programs running on my computer, the only thing thats getting through is whatever I allow... I'm still trying to get my computer to run smoothly through all this stuff ... of course I could just disable them all, but then no protection whatsoever....
meh too much protection some say is good, but i think too much is just wrong. you spend to much time trying to allow certain programs to work. and norton sucks there are others out there that are better. like adaware.
It came with the computer so I'm just going to use it till it expires ... but its pretty much free. All I have to do is just reset my comp to the factory state and I can continue to use it for free again, pretty dumb, and I dont lose any files when I do that, just would have to reinstall programs and update everything again.
I havent had a virus for about a year. If you know what your doing and keep your computer secure, you can make do without a virus scanner.
